85 Self-Motivation, How to Keep The Fire. Ft Caxixi

Keeping my mind focus on where I want to keep me motivated, connecting with the Capoeira community through this podcast, and in person keeps me motivated!!

I was really closed to stop teaching classes, but I changed my mind after my last trip to Fortaleza, Brazil, I had the opportunity to meet amazing Capoeiristas, and also watch them playing in the roda!! Amazing Capoeiristas there!!!! Till I had the chance to have a conversation with one of them, where we talked about finding your own motivation when there’s little to non-Capoeira in your city, where you have to travel far to find a Capoeira class.

I will never forget this conversation because I told him how difficult it was for me to keep my motivation back then, which he responded “Caxixi, I’ve been there, and I know how you feel, so here is my advice for you, YOU HAVE TO WIN THE WAR IN YOUR HEAD, because if you win that war, you will find the fire and keep it”…

So today I want to tell you the same, and you want to quit Capoeira, if one day you lose your motivation, listen to me and WIN THE WAR IN YOUR HEAD!!!… Don’t quit!!!

84 Voice Warm-Up Tips For Singing in Roda, Music is The Foundation of The Roda. Ft. Instrutora Faisca.

In this episode, I had the pleasure to interview @julia.faisca, where we talked about the importance of Capoeira music in the roda, but we also talked about some tips of how to warm up your voice and how to take care of it, before, during, after the roda and even after the roda. During the interview, we also talked about how creating music is the collab of many people around us, and here is something important: singing in the roda is carrying the responsibility of setting up the energy of the roda!, but is also up to all of us standing in the roda to keep that energy through our voice, our claps, and our presence.

She also mentioned awesome tips to learn and get inspiration from any type of Brazilian music. She wanted to share her Spotify playlist of Brazilian music (I went through this playlist myself and it is awesome all this music):

83 How To Fix Your CabaƧas. Ft. Aroeira

In this episode, I had the pleasure to talk to Aoeira ( @aroeiracapoeira ) all the way from Texas, where he walks me through how he fixes and currently fixing some cabaƧas. You won’t believe how broken those cabaƧas were till he shows you how they were before.

You can also support his skills in fixing cabaƧas, go give him a follow, and talk to him here ( @aroeiracapoeira ) about fixing your cabaƧas.

If you own a Berimbau, or even if you not, you know that watching a cabaƧa getting completely unusable, hurts so much, especially if that the only Berimbau you have, sometimes those cabaƧas can be completely broken, either in half, or a small crack, or even worse than thatā€¦ broken in little pieces!!ā€¦

The first thought is “well I lost my cabaƧa, so I’m gonna throw this cabaƧa away and one day gets a new one”. I have been there many times.

I have dropped cabaƧa before, I have seen many scenarios, but in the end, they all are painful to see!

82 UNIFY – When We Are United We Can Accomplish A Lot More. Ft. Mestre Ferradura – PART II

Mestre Ferradura (@ferradura_capoeira) has amazing work that has been helping many people, from kids to the homeless to Capoeira teachers! Creating a huge impact in the community. This happens thanks to the mentality on UNITY!!… Unity is not about group, much less Capoeira style, it goes beyond that, it more accepting the different way of thinking, and believes, it is about coming together and understanding that we all here to enjoy the common ground, CAPOEIRA!

I’ve seen it myself, when ALL Capoeiras work with one single purpose, which is benefit our communities through Capoeira and respecting others, the growth that Capoeira has as a community itself, is massive!!… Capoeira in Venezuela grew huge because we all work together to help each other.

If unity becomes just for the benefit of a few, instead of the whole, or when “unity” is use for a selective few in a selective circle, then it is not unity anymore, it becomes exclusivity!

Mestre Ferradura is pedagogue, president of the Brazilian Institute of Capoeira-Education, and director of the Project Brincadeira de Angola. Support and check all his work in the links below.
